Kyoto Animation takes over and wow, the tone shift. It’s much darker and serious than Fumoffu. Seeing Sousuke balance his merc duties and school life is classic, but the tension feels higher. The animation upgrade is immediately noticeable. Great start.

Episode Context

As the first episode of thirteen, this serves as the gateway into The Second Raid's escalation of both external threats and internal pressures on Mithril. It picks up after the events of the original Full Metal Panic series, reintroducing the world and its players while planting early seeds for the emergence of a dangerous new adversary. Everything here, the tone, the combat scale, the undercurrent of unease, is deliberate groundwork for the darker conflicts that will define this season.
