Serie finally speaks, confirming the danger of the region, only for Metode to playfully warn Genau not to 'drag her down.'

Genau sits by a lake, doves pecking nearby, and reflects on his previous partner, a good person full of joy and kindness. Flashbacks show his partner making children laugh and performing magic tricks, a stark contrast to the grim present. The memory turns tragic, revealing his partner shielding a child, fatally wounded by a multi-armed demon. Genau states he would never make such a foolish sacrifice, admitting he has always abandoned those in need.

Metode asks why she was chosen for this mission, a question Genau dismisses as Serie's decision. He observes that the mages assigned to the Northern Highlands are those who love fighting more than anything. Genau then warns Metode not to become like him, a person who finds satisfaction in battle. He implies that such a nature is not the mark of a good person.

Gathered in a rustic room, Metode briefs Frieren, Fern, and Stark on the current threat: four demon generals, one wielding four swords, decimated the local knight order. Frieren adds that some demons perfect combat over centuries, even stronger than heroes like Eisen. Stark is shocked to learn such a powerful foe might not even have a human form, a detail Metode explains was likely why the knight order failed.

Genau insists on staying behind to guard the deceased until the Nord Knights arrive, claiming it is an instinct of humans. Stark questions this, pointing out the danger, but then sees through Genau's hardened exterior. Genau admits to not being a 'good person,' having done many terrible things for peace. Frieren, Fern, and Metode navigate a dark forest, with Frieren instructing them to avoid long-range detection. Revoulte launches powerful aerial attacks, but Frieren shields Fern. Recognizing the demon's reliance on flight magic, Frieren creates illusions while Fern unleashes powerful offensive spells. Their coordinated efforts overwhelm Revoulte, sending it crashing away in retreat.

Genau then reveals the identity of the demon general they are hunting: Revoulte, the same demon who killed his previous partner. He explains Revoulte's unique magical swords, which can alter weight and are imbued with pure killing intent.

Genau makes a startling confession to Stark, admitting he is not a good person and has killed many, even those like Stark, including his own previous partner. A demon approaches, and Genau prepares for the inevitable fight. He unveils his forbidden spell, 'Iron Wings,' a shadow magic that forms massive raven-like wings. As darkness envelops the village, Genau declares his spell will sever all bonds, including threads of fate, to destroy his enemy.
