EPISODE REVIEWS

What a funny first episode! Haru and the whole cast of free! are genuinely some wholesome characters. The episode was interesting, filled with ups and downs and yet, entertaining until the very end. It’s a must watch sports anime.

Episode Context

As the series premiere, this episode builds the entire foundation, the friendships, the emotional stakes, and the key tension surrounding Rin's complicated return to the group. It functions as a reunion story first and a sports anime second, establishing the bonds that will be tested across all twelve episodes. The following episode, 'Memories in the Distance!', digs deeper into the shared history between these characters, expanding on the unresolved dynamics introduced here.
