Synopsis
All Guan Chao wants is something simple enough: travel back in time and fix something in his past, right? Except his search for a "burning stone", the key to activating a time-travel device, drops him straight into the Memory Management Bureau, a surreal organization that exists inside layers of human memory. Now he's stuck. The only way back to reality is fighting through these memory layers and dealing with "BUG people," corrupted entities that warp and distort memories from the inside. With help from bureau administrators Fangtang and Baizhong, Guan Chao has to clear each layer while the line between what's real and what's remembered gets thinner and thinner. This ONA from Flint Sugar and Studio Tumble leans hard into its psychological side. The action is there, but the real tension comes from not knowing what's genuine memory and what's been tampered with. Each memory layer brings a different kind of challenge, so it doesn't just repeat itself. The animation shifts between grounded fight sequences and these warped, dreamlike memory landscapes that give the whole thing a distinct visual identity. If you liked the mind-bending time mechanics of Steins;Gate or the way Erased played with memory and regret, this hits a similar nerve. There's also a Psycho-Pass quality to the institutional mystery of the Bureau itself, who runs it, and what are they actually managing? Worth keeping an eye on when it drops in 2026.

I did not expect Bai Zhong realizing that golden key was fake to hit so hard. Her Granny Xiong memory breaking apart because it was just a paperclip lockpick was such a cool reveal, and then Fang Tang stuffing Protagonist Halo into an actual washing machine at the end had me dying. Studio Tumble went crazy with the animation here
Finding out Guan Chao created every single bug monster himself blew my mind It completely changes how you look at the previous episodes
Equipping an umbrella a soda can and a banana peel like serious combat gear made me laugh Bai Zhong went straight to war with school supplies
Ran Deng crying over the BUG because it was too pitiful to kill explains so much about his halo. Fighting trauma by destroying it just spawns more problems.
The flash of the beer bottle and the abusive room made the whole clam monster make sense to me. Hui Huo shattering his halo just broke me.
Fang Tang casually frying up cabbage on a grill while the elevator drops a guy into a crater is hilarious right before the desert angst hits.
