Episode Context

Sitting at episode 62 of 102, this lands squarely in the Tartaros arc's escalation phase. Fairy Tail declared war on the dark guild in the preceding episodes, and now individual matchups are putting that resolve to the test. Natsu's confrontation with Jackal is one of the first major one-on-one clashes of this arc, establishing the power level and ruthlessness of Tartaros's ranks. The outcome and consequences here feed directly into the intensifying conflict that will define the back half of this season.
