The ending was just okay. Overall, I would say the story is really decent. If you can ignore the bad animation and simply enjoy the story, then it's worth watching. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it.

It had one last hurrah for the conflict, but Akira's finale doesn't land heavy from lacking in the depths he should've had as a character as well as the overall execution of the plot. Lots of missed opportunities here.

It could have been great. There's so many ideas in this finale that would hit if they actually had the time to develop the characters properly and polish the animation. In fact, they don't actually show all the battle, the most important bits are just told.
