EPISODE CONTEXT
As the fourth of sixteen episodes, this installment sits at the tail end of the series' opening act, where the foundational relationship between Yao Ji and Liu Ling and the rules of their world are still being locked into place. The first three episodes established their meeting and the premise of Liu Ling's journey toward the East Palace. From here, the middle stretch of the season should begin escalating stakes and complicating the central romance.
