Using a time skip like that felt surprisingly natural for an older show like this, and seeing where everyone ended up after the graduation ceremony gave it a lot of weight. The short shot of the empty classroom was the most effective part, because it really captured the feeling of things ending and it made the whole passage of time theme feel real.
