Synopsis
All Wataru wants from his final high school summer is simple enough: get closer to Mai, the reserved and quietly elegant girl he's been thinking about for way too long. Except life keeps throwing other people at him: Miho, who's already a little too attached; Misa, the athletic tomboy who's harder to read than she looks; Kurumi, sweet but hopelessly naive; and Satomi, the sharp-tongued waitress who gives him grief every time he walks into the restaurant. Four women standing between him and the one he actually wants, and the summer is running out. This 4-episode OVA from 1994 is essentially a drama built around the emotional messiness of young relationships: the push and pull, the awkward confessions, the gap between what people say and what they actually feel. It's adapted from a visual novel, so there's a branching-paths energy to how Wataru moves through these connections, even in linear form. The sensual content is present and upfront, so go in knowing what kind of show it is. If you've watched Kimi ga Nozomu Eien or Yosuga no Sora and appreciated how those series treat romantic entanglement with some emotional weight rather than pure wish fulfillment, this scratches a similar itch. It's older, the animation reflects that era, but the character dynamics hold up better than you'd expect. A decent snapshot of how the genre handled drama and romance before the modern mold got set.

The chemistry between Satomi and Wataru feels way more grounded than the scenes with Miho or Misa and I really hope the focus stays on them
That scene at the restaurant with Satomi had such a heavy atmosphere and the way they drew the characters makes the tension feel so real
Wataru is kind of a mess and seeing him trip over every girl besides Mai is funny but also a little frustrating since he has zero focus
The art style during the first scenes with Misa and the other girls looks so good for an old ova and it captures that late summer heat perfectly
I really liked the vibe in the restaurant and Satomi is definitely my favorite so far because her attitude makes the whole dynamic way more interesting than Wataru chasing Mai
The animation during the intimate moments is really detailed. It definitely sets a different tone than your average romantic anime but the plot itself feels a little thin right now
Satomi seems like the most interesting character so far. She actually has a job and a life outside of school unlike some of the other girls who just follow Wataru around
The transition from the school setting to the more adult scenes is pretty jarring. It makes the whole coming of age theme feel a bit hollow when nobody cares about the fallout of their actions
Watching Wataru chase after Mai while Miho is basically throwing herself at him made me feel bad for everyone involved. The show is way more explicit than I expected for a drama
I really did not expect the production quality to be this high for something so graphic and the scene where Wataru meets Satomi at the restaurant felt way more mature than the typical high school drama stuff, I just hope the story actually goes somewhere because right now it feels like a lot of random encounters without any real consequences for anyone
It is trying to be a serious coming of age story about growing up and finding love. Then it just throws in these huge sex scenes that feel like they belong in a different show
Wataru trying to get with Mai and getting sidetracked by all these other girls is such a mess. He seems pretty boring so far but that restaurant scene with Satomi was definitely something else
Misa being such an athlete makes her stand out from the rest of the girls, but Wataru is such a bland guy that it makes you wonder why anyone is interested in him
I think the way the show handles the romance is weird. The characters just sleep together and act like it is no big deal without any real weight to their choices or lives
