Piccolo is playing it so tough, but then he goes and teleports those apples to Gohan anyway. I think it shows he is not the same monster he used to be, even if he still acts like a jerk. Watching Gohan eat those sour apples and cry himself to sleep was pretty rough and I felt bad for the little guy.
