This was a weird episode because it felt like a lot of setup for the Cell Games and not much else happened, and the part where Dende gets the job is cool but it really highlights how much the stakes have changed since the Frieza arc, and Cell just blowing up the army felt like filler but at least the Dragon Balls are back

I loved that Goku just went to New Namek to solve the Dragon Ball problem since it shows how much he has grown as a leader

Piccolo coming out of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber looking that strong was incredible and he finally feels like a heavy hitter again

The whole scene with the military felt like a massive waste of time because everyone knew they stood zero chance against Cell from the start

Dende actually upgraded the Dragon Balls to give two wishes instead of one, which feels like a total game changer for the Z fighters

I missed Dende so much and seeing him come back to be the new Guardian of Earth was the highlight of the episode for me

Seeing Vegeta walk into the Time Chamber with that look on his face made me get hyped for whatever power he brings out next

The pacing felt a bit slow today because there was a lot of talking and walking around instead of the fighting we usually get from this show

It was nice seeing Goku worry about Mr Popo being lonely on the lookout because he really has a good heart even with Cell out there

When Cell just strolled right through the entire military like it was nothing, I actually gasped out loud. It really made me wonder if even Vegeta and Piccolo combined could even touch him at this point, he's so far beyond the androids it's insane.

Even with the Cell Games getting closer, the show manages to find time for some decent character moments while still moving the main story forward with Dende

Watching the army try to fight Cell was painful, but it really highlights how the Z-fighters are the only ones standing between Earth and total annihilation right now

Goku just popping over to new namek to solve the kami problem in five minutes was honestly hilarious after all the drama it took to find the place originally

I felt so nostalgic seeing goku and dende together again because it feels like forever since the namek saga ended and it was great that they found a new guardian so easily and now the dragon balls are finally active again which gives me a lot of hope for how they will handle the fight against cell

It is such a relief to see dende as the new guardian since earth really needs a win and having a familiar face back on the lookout again

I really think bulma is incredible for figuring out the science stuff while everyone else is just screaming and powering up because her brain is her actual superpower

Goku being so chill at home while the world is ending is actually insane and it makes you wonder if he knows something about the cell games that we dont yet

Those military guys really thought they could stop cell with tanks and it was so funny seeing him just stand there while their weapons did absolutely nothing

Dende coming back to earth is such a relief for me because it means the dragon balls are finally active again and goku was so fast with that teleportation trip

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at episode 172 of 291, this falls deep within the Cell Saga, during the critical preparation phase before the Cell Games. The previous stretch of episodes dealt with the fallout of Cell achieving his perfect form and the Z Fighters scrambling for a power-up strategy, making the question of Earth's Guardian directly relevant to whether the Dragon Balls — and by extension any hope of reversing catastrophic losses — remain viable. This episode sets the foundation for the spiritual and logistical infrastructure the heroes will desperately need as the saga hurtles toward its climax.
