I am glad Gohan is taking charge while his dad is away because it shows he can lead a team when he needs to

It was terrifying when Chi-Chi and Master Roshi tried to bite and attack Gohan and Krillin

The Black Water Mist turning everyone into those aggressive monsters was way more messed up than I thought it'd be; it’s one thing for villains, but seeing innocent people get twisted like that really made me feel uneasy about what’s coming next for our guys.

Spice and his goons seem like generic villains but the way they just completely overwhelmed Kame House makes the situation look pretty hopeless for Gohan and Krillin

It is honestly refreshing to see Krillin and Gohan having to figure things out on their own, and the scene where Chi-Chi gets infected and starts attacking Gohan was brutal to watch because he looks so conflicted about fighting his own mother, even though she is clearly not herself right now and they only have one day to fix it

My interest dropped as soon as I realized this is just a rehash of the Dead Zone movie and I really just want to see what happened to Goku after Namek

The blackwater mist is a terrifying concept and seeing the entire world fall into chaos in just one episode really shows how dangerous Garlic Jr actually is

Garlic Jr coming back from the movie is a cool idea and the twenty four hour time limit adds some much needed pressure to the plot

I felt so bad when Master Roshi started acting like a vampire and bit Krillin because those two have been friends since the beginning of the whole series

The fact that this is filler makes it hard to care, especially since we just finished the massive Frieza fight and now we are back to Garlic Jr again

Gohan having to carry the team while his dad is gone is the best part of this new arc and he looks so small against those giant spice guys

I think Maron is kind of annoying and her being one of the few survivors instead of Piccolo or someone useful makes the stakes feel a bit weird even if the mist is scary

Seeing Chi-Chi and the others turn into mindless demons was actually pretty creepy and it makes the threat feel way more personal than just another big energy blast coming for the planet

Having Garlic Jr come back from the dead just to spray some magic mist over the planet feels like a bit of a reach for a filler plot

Seeing Chi Chi with those glowing red eyes and that creepy fangs look was definitely a choice for a show that usually just has people punching each other

Krillin trying to protect Maron while his best friends were trying to kill him at the house was honestly the most stressful thing about this whole episode

The Spice Boys have such ridiculous names for villains, and it makes it hard to take the threat seriously when they are called Spice or Vinegar.

I spent the whole time wondering how Garlic Jr even got back and then he just takes over the Lookout like it is nothing while those henchmen laugh at everyone

That title was such a lie because the fight with Piccolo only happened for like two seconds right before the credits started rolling

I actually liked seeing the side characters get some screen time for once even if they all turned evil because of that black mist stuff. It was pretty funny watching Krillin try to handle Chi Chi when she was snapping at him and then Garlic Jr just sitting on the lookout is a cool visual for a villain.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 109 falls squarely in the anime-only Garlic Jr. Saga, a filler arc bridging the Frieza and Android sagas while Goku remains absent from Earth. The previous episode established Garlic Jr.'s return from the Dead Zone, and this installment escalates his scheme by unleashing the Black Water Mist, setting up the inevitable showdown at Kami's Lookout in the episodes ahead.
