The long-awaited battle finally happened: Son Goku vs. Jiren! Son Goku, who used Super Saiyan Blue Kaio Ken, was still not strong enough to face Jiren. This forced Goku to use his ultimate attack, Genkidama, on Jiren.

Episode Context

Sitting at episode 109 of 131, this marks the dramatic turning point of the Tournament of Power, the arc's central conflict finally crystallizes around Goku versus Jiren after dozens of episodes establishing the tournament's chaotic ensemble battles. Previous episodes built alliances, eliminations, and tactical maneuvering among universes, but this episode narrows the lens to the fight that everything has been orbiting. It directly leads into Episode 110, forming a critical two-part sequence that introduces franchise-altering developments and sets the trajectory for the tournament's final stretch.
