Episode Context

Coming off the lighter fare of the World Martial Arts Tournament, this episode marks the hard pivot into the Super 17 Saga, one of GT's most ambitious villain concepts. Episode 42 functions as the saga's ignition point, establishing the threat from Hell and positioning Goku against enemies with a personal history. What follows in subsequent episodes builds directly on the confrontations and alliances set in motion here.
