The episode seems to lure you in with some already established lore... It also tries to be a little unpredictable and mysterious, which I personally appreciate. Also blends in a little comedy with the animation and character lines. The action is pretty on point.

A good intro to get you intrigued in this gothic world crawling with akumas. I really liked it. Main protag seems like a very sweet guy despite having to deal with the horrors on a daily basis

This intro sets the tone nicely with gothic vibes. It’s a quintessential 2000s anime: crisp art with muted colors plus an emotional orchestral score. The episode wastes no time in building a beautiful dark world through Allen’s Akuma-hunting action. Great taste of what's to come!

The arc opens with instant nightmare fuel as the crew walks into a village that looks like something very bad happened five minutes ago and everyone immediately realizes this mission is going to be rough.

Animes that look cute but are actually super dark and intense! Loved this intro to a very original take on demons. Allen is an adorable character and you can see that he only looks young and innocent, probably saw a lot in his short life. Great art and world-building!

Strong opener that quickly shows the dark tone of the series. Allen’s cursed eye and the disturbing nature of Akuma make the world feel grim right away. The atmosphere and emotional hook land well, making it easy to get pulled into the story.

What a way to start the show! There were hardly any boring moments in the introduction. They really kicked things off with a bang. I like how the story immediately pulls you in from the very beginning.

Such great world-building! The story is already so interesting, and the characters are really intriguing. It’s honestly one of the best and most underrated anime out there that deserves more attention.

EPISODE CONTEXT

This is ground zero — nothing precedes it, and everything that follows builds from it. The episode plants the core premise and establishes Allen's identity before he ever reaches the Black Order, making it essential viewing rather than skippable setup. It feeds directly into Episode 2, 'The Black Order,' where the institutional framework of the story begins to take shape.
