This episode gives some background on how Asunaro and Maki met. Much less chaotic episode outside of that first part. Not the funniest, but still a nice chill episode.

This felt more like an action thriller, because saw Mashiro being blackmailed and having to use all her physical skills to get her phone back.

Soft, nostalgic graphics for the flashback. Asunaro recounting how he and Maki became partners is the peak moment. In this episode, I just understood that every duo has their own weird origin story.

Episode Context

Sitting at the three-quarter mark of the season, Episode 9 deliberately steps back from the cyber-focused casework of Episode 8 to invest in character foundations. By fleshing out Maki and Asunaro's backstory and giving Mashiro a spotlight through a low-stakes personal scenario, the series is clearly building emotional infrastructure ahead of what the final three episodes will demand. This character-first approach signals that the endgame will lean on these relationships as much as any mystery.
