EPISODE CONTEXT
At episode 18 of 24, Desert Punk is firmly in its third act, where the earlier episodic bounty-hunter-of-the-week formula has given way to escalating tensions and more consequential storylines involving Kanta, Junko, and the power structures of the Great Kanto Desert. The preceding episodes have been layering in complications that push Kanta's self-serving philosophy to its limits. This episode continues that trajectory, setting the stage for the final stretch where the series commits to the darker narrative turns it's been foreshadowing.
