the deliberate pacing slowdown is clearly intentional tension-building rather than a structural weakness. the unease cultivated during quieter moments is effective even if the episode itself doesn't feel particularly rewarding on its own terms.

misa is the literal definition of completely down bad and i feel this on a personal level even if i would not make the same choices. watching her be so absolutely devoted while getting basically nothing in return is a kind of painful to watch ngl like brother get the fuck up

the phone scene in this episode was more frightening than most of the overtly tense moments this show has given us. something about it just feels like the walls are closing in and it left me with this lingering dread that didn't go away.

Episode Context

Sitting at the rough midpoint of the series, 'Wager' follows the alliance-complicating events of 'Friend' and pushes the Light-L-Misa triangle into increasingly precarious territory. This episode functions as a pivotal bridge, decisions made here carry direct consequences into 'Decision' (Episode 16), where the fallout becomes unavoidable. It's a turning-point installment that deepens the strategic entanglements defining Death Note's first half.
