Episode 6 is the best episode of the season so far, but that's not saying much. The city defense arc gives the show a sense of purpose, and the demon confrontation is the first real challenge Satou has faced. The animation is still weak, the writing is still shallow, and the slavery elements are still uncomfortable. But if you've made it this far, this episode at least gives you something to watch.

I went into this episode expecting a simple breather, but it turned out to be so much more! At times, the stage setting gave off major Sword Art Online vibes, and it even reminded me a bit of the Chimera Ant arc from Hunter x Hunter. The build-up throughout was incredible, and ending on such a solid cliffhanger leaves us totally guessing what comes next.

Episode Context

The midpoint of Death March hits with a notable gear shift. After several episodes of leisurely world-building and slice-of-life isekai comfort, Episode 6 pivots hard into action territory as Satou and his growing party face a genuine crisis threatening the city they've been settling into. The tone moves from relaxed exploration to urgent teamwork, giving each companion a moment to demonstrate their individual strengths under pressure. Strategic planning sequences break up the combat, lending the episode a more structured pace than the show's typical wandering rhythm. Expect the camaraderie that's been building over previous episodes to pay off here, with group dynamics front and center. It's the most tension-driven episode the series has delivered so far, though it still carries that characteristic low-stakes warmth underneath the action set pieces.
