Kukuru's Fiery Introduction
The episode opens with an intense close-up on Kukuru Manase's eye, narrowing in pain before widening in shock. A fiery, digital 'Banhammer' ability erupts around him, suggesting a power born of raw emotion. The frantic pace of the opening credits introduces the main cast, hinting at their roles and abilities, notably Soji Enishiro and Kukuru himself. It is a whirlwind of digital energy and simmering anger, establishing the series' unique blend of the personal and the technological.
The Burden of the Past
Under a somber night sky, Kukuru's internal monologue begins, setting a tone of regret as he remembers his escape from a past he despised. He recalls a younger Renri Hasumi looking out a window, trapped in a life Kukuru sought to abandon. This initial glimpse into his history paints him as a rebel, seeking fun and rebellion to vent pent-up feelings. The city lights blur, hinting at a past he desperately tried to outrun.
A Monk's Recruitment
We then see Kukuru, in his distinct green uniform, charmingly inviting Renri and Naruhiko Emoto to Miden Academy. He is confident, deflecting a punch from a rival with a mere fan, proving his formidable abilities. The rivals mock him, calling him 'monk' and 'nerd,' but Kukuru remains unfazed, convinced of the youngsters' potential. His persuasive words and effortless power demonstrate a compelling charisma.
Renri's Mother and Kukuru's Flustered Charm
Kukuru's attempt to recruit is interrupted by two flirty rivals, who find his 'cosplay' attractive. He blushes, flustered, trying to politely decline their advances, a moment of unexpected vulnerability. Amidst this lighthearted exchange, one of the rivals calls out to Renri about his mother, a sudden, sharp reminder of a shared, painful past. Renri stares blankly, then sighs, revealing a deep resignation.
The Shameful Legacy
A poignant flashback takes us to Kukuru's mother, frail but smiling, imparting a final wish for him to be a 'good person.' This tender memory is quickly shattered by a somber funeral and the furious accusation of Kukuru's grandfather. He blames Kukuru for his mother's death, citing her 'heartbreak and shame' over a video of Kukuru's violent outburst that went viral. The online 'flaming' is presented as the catalyst for the family's condemnation, leaving Kukuru haunted by self-doubt.
Kasubata's Resolve
Kukuru makes peace with his past, embracing his mother's memory by adopting her name, Kasubata. He changes his hair to black and dons a white shirt, symbolically turning over a new leaf. He confesses his past as a 'flame-baiter,' realizing his hatred for them was a projection of his self-loathing. This transformation is not about erasing his past, but understanding and integrating it into a new, more determined identity.
Wagari's Challenge and Kukuru's Struggle
The present fight against Wagari intensifies, as Wagari's green energy sword burns through Kukuru's flaming banhammer. Kukuru is surprised, realizing Wagari's power comes from a genuine commitment to their shared exorcist past, something Kukuru fled. He grapples with his internal conflict, admitting his tendency to curse and his self-loathing. Waguru's aggression highlights Kukuru's inner turmoil, questioning his own path.
Soji's Arrival and Kukuru's Triumph
Just as Kukuru struggles, Soji Enishiro intervenes with a powerful kick, reminding Kukuru that some embrace their 'flames' instead of running. This inspiration, combined with Wagari's continued taunts about Kukuru being a 'coward,' pushes Kukuru to a breakthrough. He defiantly declares he will not erase his past, but embrace it, using its power to unleash a barrage of attacks that finally defeat Wagari. It is a victory of self-acceptance.
A New Alliance Forged
In the aftermath, Soji confidently declares his victory, while Kukuru admits his reliance on Soji and Renri's help. A quiet moment of gratitude passes between them, cementing their newfound bond. Renri expresses thanks, recognizing Soji as the one who helped him open up, subtly acknowledging Kukuru's role in this transformation. The shared experience has brought them closer, forming a genuine team.
The Arrogance of Ashina
With one opponent down, Ashina is introduced: a 'freezer type' cyberkinesis user and self-proclaimed 'work of art.' Renri describes him as an arrogant social media influencer, obsessed with his own beauty. Ashina is shown posing naked under a waterfall, convinced of his perfection and his duty to share it with the world. His social media account, however, is frequently 'frozen' by mods, a direct clash between his self-perception and reality.
Ashina's Icy Display
Ashina confidently summons an ice blade from his phone, which transforms into a chain of ice, freezing a monster with theatrical flair. He admires his work, believing he elevates even 'hideous ghost accounts' to art. Soji Enishiro sees the display, his confidence growing as he anticipates an 'epic battle between fire and ice.' The scene sets up a visually striking and metaphorically rich confrontation.
The Naked Truth and Frozen Town
Ashina, now fully naked, boasts that he will win alone, believing it will enhance his beauty. He attempts to post a picture of himself online, momentarily conflicted by the knowledge his account will be frozen. This self-absorption leads him to freeze the entire hot spring town, trapping everyone within his icy barrier. His chilling resolve and connection to 'Master K' hint at a larger, more ominous scheme, transforming him from a mere antagonist into a significant threat.
Closing Thoughts
The episode concludes with the main cast facing the grim reality of Ashina's powerful display, their worry palpable. Soji Enishiro looks determined, his hands glowing with blue fire, ready to confront the new challenge. The ending sequence rolls, showcasing the characters in playful poses, a stark contrast to the episode's tense climax. It leaves us with a sense of impending battle and the enduring spirit of the protagonists.
EPISODE REVIEWS

In all honesty, I don't really understand the concept of dead accounts or what creates them still. The explanation was a block of dialogue I could care less to pause and reread. Whatever works for the next episode.. it'll definitely be an interesting watch.

Interesting episode and background for Kasubata! It definitely explained his mysterious behavior well, but definitely sidelined Hasumi to be his 'emotional support' rather than have a character of his own. Hopefully they will expand on his character later on.

This episode was better than the last in terms of pacing and continuity; the threads from the previous build ups were all concluded well enough, and a character was given a somewhat satisfying backstory wrap-up.
