Synopsis
A massive earthquake hit Tokyo over a decade ago, and by 2040 the megacity still hasn't recovered — the air is bad and the ground is worse — and it's into this mess that Ken Ando wants to join the DC, an organization supposedly dedicated to cleaning the whole mess up. Reasonable goal. Except early on, a mysterious white mecha shows up and starts attacking DC's own cleanup crews, and somehow Ken ends up right in the middle of it. That's how his normal-guy-with-good-intentions story gets very complicated, very fast. What starts as an environmental disaster recovery plot quietly reveals itself to be something stranger — there's a hidden world beneath the surface where magic and spirits operate on completely different rules than anything Ken understands, and DC's motives are not quite what they advertised. The mecha angle here blends with genuinely mystical elements in a way that feels distinct rather than gimmicky. If you grew up watching Mobile Suit Gundam Wing and liked the political intrigue layered under the robot fights, this has a similar texture. Fans of RahXephon or Neon Genesis Evangelion who appreciate mecha shows that take their world-building seriously will find familiar territory. It's a 26-episode TV series from 1999, so the pacing reflects that era — methodical, not rushed. Give it a few episodes to let the layers surface.
