Synopsis

Jinto Linn is just a kid when he watches his dad sell their entire planet to an alien empire. Not metaphorically, he literally handed over their world to the Abh, a race of genetically engineered humans who've been quietly conquering star systems for centuries. In exchange, Jinto gets a noble title and a one-way trip to the Abh homeland to finish his education as a freshly minted count who's never actually lived among the people he now technically rules. His escort is Lafiel, an Abh princess who's sharp, proud, and not particularly impressed by him, at first. Then their ship gets caught between the Abh fleet and a massive human resistance coalition, and suddenly it's less of a field trip and more of a survival situation. The 13-episode TV series from Sunrise is slow-burn in the best way. The real draw is watching Jinto and Lafiel's dynamic develop against this backdrop of interstellar war, two people from completely different worlds, literally, figuring out what they mean to each other. The Abh culture and language are genuinely fleshed out, which gives the whole thing a texture that feels rare. If you liked Legend of the Galactic Heroes and want something more intimate in scale, or you enjoy early Gundam's blend of space politics and personal stakes, this scratches that itch. It's quiet, character-driven, and takes its time, which is exactly what it needs to be.
