That 80s aesthetic and the way the colors bleed during the fantasy scenes created such a haunting look

Everything felt too rushed and the messy way it tried to wrap up those taboo plot lines left everyone confused

I actually didn't expect the Escalation series to end on such a bizarre note, especially with all the sci-fi stuff thrown in at the very last minute. The transition from the more grounded parts of the story to this weird angelic epilogue felt like a fever dream and the hand-drawn art really carries the heavy atmosphere through the whole episode.

Integrating fantasy elements into the ending felt out of place compared to the start of the escalation arc

My brain is fried after watching that weird sci fi ending and the animation from 1987 still looks better than some stuff today

Seeing how they wrapped up the story for these characters was pretty grim. The soundtrack during the final minutes really made the atmosphere feel heavy

If you thought the previous parts were weird then this one goes even further. The focus on the psychological power play between the students is brutal

I finally finished the Escalation trilogy and this last part is definitely the most extreme out of all of them, the way the girls interact in that Catholic school setting adds such a heavy layer of guilt and tension to the S&M stuff, the ending felt a bit abrupt but the visuals for 1987 were surprisingly solid throughout the whole episode

Some of the S&M stuff was a bit much even for this show. The animation during the climax was actually pretty fluid for the eighties

The way they used the school chapel for some of those scenes was a bold choice. It really added to the whole sacrilegious feel of the episode

It is wild how this series manages to be so transgressive and strange at the same time. That ending really stuck with me

I really wasn't prepared for how dark the lesbian S&M scenes got in this ep, but the art style actually made it look kind of beautiful in a weird way

I think the way the school setting makes the S&M stuff feel so much more forbidden is wild and the ending to the Escalation arc really leaned into that taboo vibe

You can tell they wanted to go all out for the finale. That bondage scene was way more intense than anything in the first two parts

The animation style for an eighty seven release looks way better than you would expect and seeing those girls in the catholic uniforms go that far is crazy

seeing that angel theme get wrapped up in a space setting was my favorite bit and the art style for the final battle looked so good

the s and m stuff in this one was a bit much, and the sci-fi plot felt like a weird excuse for the explicit scenes

the animation during the climax was actually really smooth for an ova from the 80s and it definitely shows why people still talk about the production value on these old tapes

that ending to the escalation trilogy felt so strange and the way they mashed up space stuff with fantasy themes was pretty jarring

I really dig the old school sci-fi look they went for in this epilogue and seeing those character designs in that 80s style is just something else

EPISODE CONTEXT

This episode marks a return to the 'Escalation' storyline after the preceding installment broke away with the 'Super Dimensional Legend Rall' segment, signaling Cream Lemon's anthology-style structure at work. Arriving at episode 16 of 38, it sits comfortably in the series' midpoint, re-centering Rie Komatsuzaki and the Catholic school setting as ongoing touchstones within the broader anthology. It lays groundwork for continued character development in subsequent episodes while reinforcing the 'Escalation' arc as one of the series' more emotionally grounded throughlines.
