The story’s mystery is deep and tragic. I especially liked the central theme of the sea and its creatures, which resonated with my love for them. Overall, it was a wonderful film.

Synopsis
Ruka Azumi's ordinary summer vacation revolves around spending all her time on the handball court to avoid her only housemate, her alcoholic mother. When an incident at practice leads to Ruka's exclusion from the handball team, she is forced to find other outlets to enjoy herself, eventually winding up at the aquarium where her father works. There, she meets Umi, a mysterious boy raised by dugongs who is being kept at the aquarium in order to research his strange water-dependent body. Ruka and Umi become fast friends, and the pair is soon joined by Sora, Umi's brother who also has an unusual relationship with the ocean. Together, the trio explore a dazzling undersea world while learning about a peculiar "festival" that all sea creatures around the world are preparing for. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

The visuals and sound effects of the movie is really good. The mixed of 2D and 3D animation makes the visuals really stunning, and the first person POV scene makes you feel like you're in the movie.
Ottimo film. Regia superba, animazioni fatte bene. Trama eccellente, non lascio spoiler, ma è una piccola chicca.
I think this movie doesn't really need to be understood on a plot-good, plot-bad basis, but it needs to be felt and understood on its on terms. I believe it's a perfect fit for those who love magical realism and sakuga! The animation is gorgeous, blending 2D and 3D in a perfect mix imo. I might be biased because I've always had a fascination with water, but I highly suggest it as "different from the mold" movie experience.
