Episode Context

As episode one of 142, this is pure setup, no prior episodes to reference, and no overarching dramatic arc to service. It exists entirely to establish Maruko, her family, and the everyday rhythms of her world. What it puts in place here, the sibling dynamic with Sakiko, the family's cultural touchstones, and Maruko's voice as a narrator of her own ordinary life, forms the backbone that carries every episode that follows.
