I thought the flashback scenes with Himeno and Aki gave so much context for why she wants him to smoke and why they are so close now, seeing Aki being petty with the gum to defend her honor was surprisingly sweet for him, it makes the current situation in the hotel feel even more desperate since they clearly love each other
