The Eighth Floor Trap
The horror begins subtly, a slight confusion as Arai finds himself on the same floor despite descending stairs. Himeno tests the impossible loop, confirming their imprisonment, while Kobeni begins to unravel, her terror raw and immediate. Aki, ever the pragmatist, assesses the situation, attempting to find an exit through windows only to find the same, unsettling view. Denji and Power, in their typical fashion, seem less concerned with their predicament than with their own fleeting desires.
Time Stands Still
As the gravity of their confinement settles, Kobeni's despair grows louder, her cries about starvation echoing in the sterile hotel. Denji's attempt to climb through the ceiling results only in a comical, dirty return, a brief moment of levity in a darkening situation. It is Aki who makes the chilling discovery: all clocks are stopped at 8:18. Time itself has ceased to flow, cementing their inescapable prison.
The Hunger Sets In
An indeterminate amount of 'time' passes, marked only by the deepening circles under Himeno's eye and Denji's long sleep. Himeno delivers a grim report, detailing their meager resources and Kobeni's desperate attempt to drink toilet water. The small discoveries of food only highlight their dwindling hope, reminding them of the inevitable outcome of their stasis. The group's physical and mental reserves are clearly nearing exhaustion.
Distraction and Shared History
Power's ludicrous dreams of Nobel Prizes and punitive tax schemes offer a bizarre, if unsettling, distraction from their plight. As Himeno and Denji seek out Aki, she lights a cigarette, an unconscious gesture that reveals a deeper connection. She fondly recalls teaching Aki to smoke, a small, shared intimacy amidst the looming terror. This moment hints at a history far richer than their current predicament.
The Weight of Partnership
A flashback transports us to the early days of Himeno and Aki's partnership, on a rooftop bathed in sunset. Himeno, weary from loss, tries to convince Aki to smoke as a coping mechanism, a grim tradition among devil hunters. She shares her pain and the harsh realities of their profession, including the undeserved blame from grieving families. Aki's small, petty act of revenge on her behalf, followed by his acceptance of a shared cigarette, solidifies their trust and mutual understanding.
The Growing Horror
Back in the present, Aki, now grimly smoking the very cigarette from the flashback, alerts the others to a new horror in the hallway. The seemingly defeated devil has not only revived but has monstrously expanded, forming a pulsating wall of flesh. The Eternity Devil reveals its true, grotesque form, an amalgamation of faces and limbs. It relishes their fear, its many eyes fixing on Denji, sensing something unique within him.
The Devil's Temptation
Kobeni, teetering on the edge, brandishes a kitchen knife, her desperate gaze fixed on Denji. The Eternity Devil then makes its wicked offer: sacrifice Denji, and the rest can leave. Himeno immediately rejects the insidious proposal, refusing to betray their own, and Aki stands firm beside her. But Kobeni and Arai, consumed by their own terror, begin to view Denji with a terrifying, pragmatic hostility, threatening to shatter their fragile unity.
Desperation and a Forbidden Weapon
As more 'time' crawls by, hunger and the devil's oppressive presence wear down the group, leaving them defeated and drained. Aki and Himeno whisper, discussing the possibility of using Aki's cursed katana. Himeno passionately objects, knowing the severe cost of such a weapon: it would drastically shorten Aki's life. Their quiet argument reveals the depth of their concern for one another, even as their options dwindle.
The Breaking Point
The tension explodes when Arai discovers their last snacks are gone, with Power shamelessly denying her guilt despite the crumbs. This small indignity is enough to tip Kobeni over the edge; convinced Denji is a spy, she lunges at him with her knife. Her movements are those of pure, unthinking panic. The sudden, violent internal conflict momentarily paralyzes the exhausted group.
Aki's Shield
The Eternity Devil, sensing the chaos, tilts the entire hotel floor, sending the group tumbling towards its waiting maw. Amidst the terrifying chaos, Kobeni lunges at Denji once more, convinced his death is their only way out. In a sudden, selfless act, Aki throws himself in front of Denji, taking the knife directly into his shoulder. Blood spatters, and Aki grunts in pain, his eyes fixed on Denji with a grim, protective resolve.
The Weight of Indebtedness
Himeno quickly restrains a distraught Kobeni as Power reluctantly uses her blood to stem Aki's bleeding. Aki, pale and injured, explains his reasoning to a shocked Denji: Denji's unique power is crucial to their mission against the Gun Devil. Denji, visibly shaken and burdened by this unexpected debt, grapples with a newfound, grim determination. He hates being indebted, particularly to someone like Aki.
A Monstrous Solution
With a chilling, manic grin, Denji realizes the Eternity Devil's weakness: it fears his chainsaws. He declares his intention to jump into the devil's mouth and tear it apart from the inside, until it begs for death. Transforming into Chainsaw Man, he dives headfirst into the colossal maw. The episode ends in a visceral flurry of blood and roaring chainsaws, as Denji begins his brutal, unrelenting assault, a true monster fighting a monster.
EPISODE REVIEWS

This episode really deepens the relationships between characters. Feels like a horror anime. Kobeni stresses me tf out

Throughout all the other episodes, I really do like this one, or even just the entire arc as it felt like much more of a horror movie than anything else. I know that the person behind Chainsaw Man is a huge movie buff, but I have to give credit to the director of the whole season for knowing the assignment and adding a lot of cinematic vibe and atmosphere to each episode, with this one being a big example for me just by the direction and the dreadful nature of being trapped is shown in this episode besides the crazy aspect at the end.
