the emotional factor in this one really hit and i was not expecting it to hit that hard at all. the connection to the students past makes it feel more personal than the average standalone case. i just wish the resolution had made the fuckass husband suffer a little bit more tbh
leveraging the protagonist's pre-series personal connections to create stakes beyond the standard victim-detective relationship is one of the more effective emotional tools the series uses sparingly. the near-murder scenario generates tension that a completed crime would have resolved too quickly.
the emotional hit here was real and i was genuinely invested in a way that not every episode of this show manages to achieve. the connection to shinichi's past adds weight that purely stranger-based cases cannot replicate. i just wish the ending had delivered harsher consequences for the person responsible.
