the episode's comedic dimension comes almost entirely from the gap between the children's absurd competence and the complete institutional incompetence of kogoro. the physical chase through the department store is implausible but executed with enough energy that the absurdity becomes the point rather than a problem

the adults dismissing these kids as silly right after they personally stopped five criminals with bicycles is SO INFURIATING and also so perfectly observed. conan has been pretending to be a grade schooler for what must feel like an eternity and watching him tolerate these children is honestly impressive.
