Rivalry on the Pavement
The Detective Boy Scouts stride through Beika City, a familiar sight. They cross paths with the Silver Detective Brigade, a trio of elders who proudly declare themselves their rivals. Muzuhiko Akasaka, Ginta Oshima, and Yasuko Emoto flaunt their detective badges, fresh from solving a lost cat case. Genta Kojima scoffs at their "detective play," but the moment is interrupted by Machiko Sugamo, a woman desperate for help. Her husband has vanished. Both groups, spurred by competition, agree to take the case, much to Conan Edogawa's quiet observation.
The Missing Husband
In a quiet park, the Silver Detective Brigade interviews Machiko Sugamo about her missing husband, Shinsuke Sugamo. She explains he left two weeks prior, seeking work, and never returned. Yasuko Emoto shows empathy, while her male counterparts quickly begin to theorize about his disappearance. Ai Haibara watches nearby, her skepticism a constant counterpoint to the seniors' enthusiastic deduction.
Strategic Differences
The two detective groups, young and old, discuss their approach to the missing person case. The Silver Detectives immediately suspect foul play, eager to prove their mettle. The Boy Scouts, led by Conan Edogawa, consider a voluntary disappearance. Muzuhiko Akasaka insists on pursuing a criminal angle, unwilling to be seen as merely "playing" detective. Conan asks Ai Haibara to keep an eye on the older trio, a reluctant task she accepts, wary of their potential missteps.
A Lead at the Supermarket
Ai Haibara accompanies the Silver Detectives to a supermarket, where Shinsuke Sugamo once worked. A clerk reveals Shinsuke was involved in tense land acquisition negotiations, making enemies. The elderly detectives, especially Muzuhiko Akasaka and Ginta Oshima, immediately fixate on a disgruntled landowner as a potential culprit. This new information fuels their belief that they are on the trail of a serious crime.
Dowsing for Danger
The Silver Detectives, convinced they are close to the truth, stake out the home of Tadao Yuge, a man known to have clashed with Shinsuke Sugamo. They observe his solitary, almost guarded behavior. Yasuko Emoto brandishes dowsing rods, claiming they will react to a buried body. To Ai Haibara's disbelief, the rods twitch violently over a specific spot in Yuge's yard just as he departs.
The Unexpected Find
With Tadao Yuge temporarily absent, the elderly detectives trespass onto his property. Ignoring Ai Haibara's warnings about legality and evidence contamination, they dig furiously at the spot indicated by the dowsing rods. Their excitement peaks when their spades hit something hard. A skeletal remains emerges from the earth, half-buried and chillingly real. Ai Haibara gasps, truly shocked, while the trio celebrates their "discovery" of Shinsuke Sugamo.
Police on the Scene
Inspector Juzo Megure and his team arrive, summoned by the triumphant Silver Detectives. Inspector Megure and Wataru Takagi recognize the elderly trio, their expressions wary. They recall past incidents where the seniors interfered with investigations. As the police examine the unearthed skeleton, Ai Haibara points out a significant depression in the skull, suggesting a blunt force injury. The proud detectives expect commendation, but Inspector Megure maintains a cautious professionalism.
A Humiliating Return
Just as the situation grows grim, Shinsuke Sugamo walks through the gate, alive and well, with his wife Machiko. He apologizes, explaining he was ashamed to contact her after losing his job and had been staying with a friend. The final blow to the Silver Detectives' pride comes when Wataru Takagi reveals the skeleton is over 300 years old, likely from the Edo period. The seniors are devastated, their dramatic "murder case" reduced to an archaeological footnote. Even Conan Edogawa feels a pang of pity for their crushed enthusiasm.
A Glimmer of Truth
The Silver Detective Brigade sits dejected in the park, their initial bravado gone. Conan Edogawa approaches, acknowledging their initial theory was wrong but suggesting Tadao Yuge's reaction to the digging was genuinely suspicious. He points out that Yuge's intense defensiveness, even after the discovery of an ancient skeleton, doesn't quite fit. Conan's words ignite a new spark of determination in the seniors. They agree to help the Boy Scouts investigate Yuge once more, sensing a deeper mystery.
The Guarded Yard
Conan Edogawa leads both detective groups back towards Tadao Yuge's neighborhood, explaining that Yuge's attachment to his property seems profound. Conan recalls how Yuge meticulously tended his yard with an almost ritualistic intensity. The Silver Detectives add context, noting Yuge has lived alone since his wife passed and his son, Tatsuya, reportedly ran away years ago. Conan begins to connect these family tragedies to Yuge's unusual behavior, forming a darker theory.
A Neighbor's Story
The combined detective forces interview Shigeko Noda, a neighbor, who provides crucial insights into the Yuge family's past. Flashbacks paint a picture of Tatsuya Yuge as a bright, sensitive young man who struggled after a workplace failure four years prior. Shigeko recounts Tatsuya's disappearance shortly after his mother, Kazue Yuge, died, and Tadao Yuge's explanation that his son had gone to "improve himself." Conan Edogawa notices the stark discrepancies, solidifying his suspicions about Tatsuya's true fate.
Confronting the Father
Conan Edogawa, flanked by both detective groups, confronts Tadao Yuge in his yard. Conan directly challenges Yuge's story, questioning a son's four-year silence after his mother's death. He theorizes that Yuge's fierce protection of his property wasn't about land acquisition, but about concealing something beneath the earth. Yuge initially dismisses them as meddling children, but Conan's relentless logic and the Silver Detectives' earnest pleas for the truth begin to erode his composure.
The Tragic Confession
Tadao Yuge breaks down, confessing the unbearable truth. Four years ago, his son Tatsuya attempted suicide after a workplace failure. In a desperate struggle to save him, Tatsuya fell, hitting his head, and died instantly. Overwhelmed by grief and a desperate need to keep his son close, Yuge buried him in the yard. He had been "praying" to him there daily ever since. Inspector Juzo Megure and Wataru Takagi return to the scene. Tatsuya's actual body is found, finally granting him a proper resting place and bringing a somber, tragic end to the investigation.
The Credit Claimers
A few days later, the Detective Boy Scouts spot a new flyer in the city. The Silver Detective Brigade has rebranded, now claiming full credit for solving the mystery. The flyer features Muzuhiko Akasaka, Ginta Oshima, and Yasuko Emoto in a heroic pose, with a small footnote crediting the Boy Scouts as "assistants." Mitsuhiko Tsuburaya and Genta Kojima are annoyed by the slight, but Conan Edogawa merely smiles. He understands their competitive spirit is what drives them, a harmless eccentricity in the grand scheme of things.
EPISODE REVIEWS

Do we really have to have this kind of episode? It wasn’t that appealing to me, and the Silver Detectives were frustrating, acting all immature. They're just too painful to watch.

The Silver Detectives were a bit annoying, but I remembered the kids being like that, too. Lol. I didn’t expect this episode to have a good storyline, especially since it seemed to be an anime original.

I kinda liked the twists and turns in this episode. It was unexpectedly intriguing. I also love the dynamics between the characters—it was shown in an amusing way.
