Coming off the introductory 'Cherry Blossoms' premiere that established the trio of friends and the series' male-perspective lens on young love, this second episode pivots to flesh out Makoto as an individual rather than just part of the group dynamic. It reinforces the anthology-adjacent structure Boys Be... uses across its 13 episodes, where different characters rotate into focus for their own romantic vignettes. This early character investment sets the foundation for the increasingly layered relationship explorations that follow.
