I'm really enjoying the approach of each episode being a character study. Although the overall plot is a bit harder to figure out, I can enjoy each episode on its own by focussing on the characters' feelings and inner turmoil.

Along with the Serial Experiments Lain comparison, the bleakness of this anime also reminds me of Kiyoshi Kurosawa's style.
