Rin’s early struggles and friendships start to take shape, showing his determination and growth. The episode balances action, character moments, and world-building nicely, keeping the story engaging. It moves the plot forward without revealing any major spoilers.

Episode Context

Following the premiere's world-building and character introductions, 'Gehenna Gate' serves as the true inciting incident of the season, the point of no return that fundamentally redirects Rin Okumura's life and launches the core narrative. Everything in episode 1 was setup; this is the payoff that makes the rest of the 25-episode season possible. It directly paves the way for Rin's entry into True Cross Academy and his path toward becoming an exorcist, which will define the bulk of the season ahead.
