Episode Context

Directly following Episode 176, which split Rukia, Uryū, and Chad into separate confrontations against bakōtō-wielding assassins, this episode narrows the focus to Rukia's individual fight. It sits in the middle stretch of the New Captain Shūsuke Amagai filler arc and builds toward the aftermath episodes that deal with the consequences of these scattered battles. The arc's overarching threat, the mysterious bakōtō weapons and the assassins deploying them, continues to escalate here.
