The wormholes didn't help Sawatari at all because Mayuri is just way too smart for him and that poison ended it fast

That baby headed caterpillar bankai is the most disgusting thing in the whole show and it fits Mayuri perfectly

The sheer horror of Mayuri's golden baby abomination spitting poison everywhere really got to me; I mean, what kind of twisted genius thinks up something like that and then weaponizes it? It just solidifies my impression that he's completely unhinged, always pushing boundaries with no regard for anything but his own experiments.

I couldn't believe Mayuri just laughed at his arm getting crushed and then fixed it right away with that serum

I was actually bored with this filler arc until this episode, because Mayuri is such a freak. That bankai reveal with the giant baby head is something I will never forget, and seeing him grow a new arm out of nowhere was wild. It is rare to see a captain go this hard in a filler fight, and the poison was brutal.

This is definitely the best episode of the bount arc because Mayuri is actually entertaining to watch on his own

Sawatari getting paralyzed and then offered up for research experiments was genuinely cold and showed how crazy Mayuri is

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting deep within the anime-original Bount invasion arc, Episode 101 follows Episode 100's focus on Suì-Fēng's dangerous encounter, rotating the spotlight to another captain as the Soul Reapers scatter to confront the Bount threat across multiple fronts. This episode bridges toward Episode 102's pivotal Uryū Ishida confrontation, maintaining the arc's pattern of sequential one-on-one battles that escalate the stakes between the Soul Society and the Bounts.
