This episode achieves so many things in a short frame! Not only do they show the stakes from the Clover and Diamond kingdom, but also expand on Asta's past with a responsible figure in his life. It explains why Noelle and Finral will benefit meeting Fanzell!
The animation takes a big dip in this episode. In the previous fight scenes with the Diamond Kingdom and all, it felt salvageable because there were moments of amazing animation, while this one features Fanzell, whose face changes every few frames.
The shift in focus from the main developing plot to Fanzell was awfully abrupt. I was unprepared in the beginning and thought it would be another recap episode too.. like suddenly there are new characters and additions we've never been shown before.
