Seeing Griffith's body in full view for the first time really showed how much of a shell he'd become. He isn't even able to formulate responses properly. The timing is also perfect in dashing the band's hopes and dreams pilled on the IDEA of Griffith saving them.

The contrast between Guts and Griffith was jarring. They stand on opposite sides of themselves and who they used to be. Guts' new identity and self-assurance is apparent, while there is almost nothing left for Griffith. Guts' resolve to stay is also rooted in his identity/goals.

Griffith’s broken state is heartbreaking. When the Behelit returns to him, it feels like fate itself is guiding events toward disaster.

UP: The escape sequence is THRILLING. Guts carrying Griffith shows his loyalty. DOWN: The Eclipse begins and NOTHING prepares you. The Behelit activating is TERRIFYING. This episode marks the point of no return. 🌑

Episode 23 of Berserk, “Eve of the Feast,” slowly builds dread as tension tightens around the Band of the Hawk. The mood continues to shift into a darker tone, showing haunting imagery and subtle hints that something devastating is lurking around the corner.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Following the harrowing rescue of Griffith and the revelation of his broken physical state, this penultimate stretch strips away any remaining hope and forces the core cast into emotional freefall. It serves as the final calm — or more accurately, the final dread — before the series plunges into its climactic and infamous final episodes. Everything the Golden Age arc has built toward converges here, making this essential viewing for understanding the weight of what comes next.
