Despite being toned down in the anime, the scenes of them discovering his body is still shocking, and painful to watch. Especially the scene with Guts hugging him; I wish they'd developed Griffith more and his hatred/'betrayal' from Guts, he's clearly in a tumultuous mental state

The tonal whiplash from Rickert and the band of the hawk being hopeful in their efforts of saving griffith, to the utter horror that he encounters on the way taking water was amazing. It not only re-introduced high stakes, but also reminds of the supernatural aspect of the world.

Episode Context

Following 'Confession' (Episode 21), where the rescue mission was set into motion, 'Infiltration' executes on that plan with high-stakes immediacy, this is the point of no return for the Band of the Hawk. Positioned at episode 22 of 25, the series is clearly accelerating toward its climax, and this episode serves as the last breath of calculated action before 'Eve of the Feast' begins unraveling the consequences of everything these characters have fought for.
