đź“– SYNOPSIS

All young Beet has ever dreamed of is fighting alongside the Zenon Warriors, the strongest Vandel Busters alive. Vandels are demon lords who command monsters and have kept humanity crushed under what people call the Dark Century. The Zenon Warriors are basically legends — five elite fighters, each wielding a unique weapon called a Saiga. Then Beet's admiration gets them killed. A confrontation with the powerful Vandel Beltorze goes sideways because of Beet, and the five warriors pour their remaining life force into their Saiga, passing all five weapons to him before they fall. So now this young kid is carrying the weight of five dead heroes and their combined arsenal, setting out to finish what they started and end the Dark Century for good. The power system here is genuinely cool — each Saiga has distinct abilities tied to the warrior who originally wielded it, and watching Beet figure out how to use weapons that weren't designed for him gives the fights real texture. The early stretch of this 52-episode TV series from Toei Animation leans hard into themes of responsibility and earned growth rather than just raw power-ups. If you liked Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibouken's blend of classic fantasy adventure with emotional stakes, or Hunter x Hunter's approach to a young protagonist navigating a world way bigger and more dangerous than him, Beet hits a similar space. It's a mid-2000s shounen that doesn't rush its setup and actually lets the cost of sacrifice stick around.

✨ MUST WATCH IF...

You dig classic shounen with explicit RPG mechanics—characters literally gain levels and experience points
Weapon-based combat over energy blasts appeals to you—Beet's five inherited weapons drive the action
You want a long 52-episode fantasy adventure with a straightforward good-vs-evil setup
Toei Animation's mid-2000s bright, colorful art style hits your nostalgia sweet spot

❌ SKIP IF...

You expect deep character arcs—Beet and his allies stay close to standard shounen archetypes throughout
Repetitive monster-of-the-week structure across 52 episodes sounds like a slog to you
You want polished animation—frame rates dip noticeably and fights can look stiff in later episodes
