👀 SPOILER-FREE SUMMARY

Past the halfway mark of the season, Beastars slows its pulse and turns inward. Episode 7 strips back the tension-driven plotting to sit with its characters in quieter, more vulnerable moments. Expect a contemplative pace that prioritizes emotional excavation over incident — Legoshi, Haru, and Louis each grapple with desires and insecurities they can barely articulate, let alone act on. The episode earns its title by peeling away social performance to expose what these characters carry underneath. Themes of self-discovery and repression run throughout, framed by the ever-present carnivore-herbivore power dynamics that define Cherryton Academy. Studio Orange's expressive CG animation does heavy lifting in the subtle character acting. There are flashes of dry humor to break the weight, but the dominant register is introspective drama that rewards patient, attentive viewing.

📍 ARC CONTEXT

Sitting at the season's midpoint after episode 6's confrontation with Legoshi's primal instincts and the blurred line between desire and danger, episode 7 downshifts to deepen the emotional groundwork for the back half. It functions as a character-study breather that recontextualizes motivations before the stakes escalate again. The personal revelations here feed directly into episode 8, 'Caught like Floss in a Canine's Tooth,' where these internalized tensions begin surfacing in the characters' relationships.
