Killer introduction to an amazing story. This episode does an amazing job at establishing the themes of discrimination, prejudice, and social dynamics. While they may parallel real life scenarios, the author, Itagaki Paru, did not intend to mimic real life, but rather explore the possibilities of this unique setting.

The elephant in the room, besides being the first furry anime to break into mainstream of course, is the choice of a 3D adaptation over a 2D one. While it does have a lot of charm and allows for more realistic character acting, which is something Itagaki herself has mentioned caring about conveying in the 3rd major arc of the manga, this art direction misses out in bringing her amazing art style into motion. This becomes especially apparent when comparing it to Saru Science's adaptation of Sanda, which is much more faithful to the source material and executes it in a beautiful fashion. Nevertheless, 3D animation still gets the job done, because the story is strong and gripping.

Well, I think I hate Rouis. He believes is that great and he isn't. I wish Legoshi eats him.

In the first minute, the story did wonderfully establishing the theme and main conflict of an animorphic society that's like a dark version of Zootopia despite being in a high school setting. It doesn't victimized both sides and allows the awkwardness of predator like Legosi to stand out. The show allows to play around with the audience's prejudice as well to make the story multi-faceted

Never knew 3D animation can be this good for an episodic anime. We are introduced to key characters in this episode such as Legoshi and Haru. The plot so far seems interesting enough and the pace from the start moves smoothly.

Y'all, it's so much deeper than just animals! The memes are funny, but this episode had so much drama and was so realistic! I've always wondered about the dynamics of carnivores and herbivores in movies and shows, but this is better than I imagined!

EPISODE CONTEXT

As the first of twelve episodes, this premiere exists entirely to establish the rules of its world and the emotional fault lines running through its central characters — Legoshi, Louis, and Haru. Every relationship introduced here and every societal tension laid bare will escalate across the full season. Think of this as the foundation episode: nothing is resolved, but everything that matters is set in motion.
