Synopsis
That gentle, pastel art style? It's a trap. Asobi Asobase is one of the most unhinged comedy anime you'll come across. The opening looks like a gentle slice-of-life about cute girls doing cute things, and then the show hits you with some of the most distorted facial expressions and absurd screaming you've ever seen in animation. The setup is simple: three middle school girls: Hanako, a loudmouth with zero filter; Olivia, a foreign student who hilariously pretends she can't speak Japanese well; and Kasumi, a deadpan loner sick of losing games to her older sister, somehow end up forming the "Pastimers Club," an unofficial school club dedicated to playing random games. That's it. That's the premise. And from there, this 12-episode TV series by Studio Lerche just spirals into increasingly chaotic gag humor where every mundane school situation somehow escalates into complete nonsense. What makes it work is the chemistry between the three leads. Their dynamic feeds off each other perfectly: one provokes, one reacts, one silently judges, and then they all lose their minds together. The animation leans hard into exaggerated expressions that genuinely catch you off guard, which is where most of the comedy lands. If you liked Nichijou or Daily Lives of High School Boys, this hits a similar nerve: everyday scenarios pushed to their most absurd conclusions. Fans of Azumanga Daioh's character-driven humor will find a lot to enjoy here too, just with way more screaming.

If you like slapstick, dumb jokes, weird plots that escalate for no reason, and girls losing sanity every 2 minutes, this anime is chef kiss. 10/10
SPICY! LMAO! I just can’t get over this series. This is perhaps my favorite comedy anime. To be honest, I didn’t expect this at all. Like, bro, come on! Look at the art! It’s so cute that it feels like a shoujo SoL (DEAD SERIOUS)! But then I watched the first episode and got sent into the deepest layers of hell from laughing too much. And as I mentioned, the art style is definitely supreme. I still cannot believe this is nothing but a comedy chaotic piece of [redacted], XD! I’d rate this series a 10/10. If you love broken humor, this is for you!
The Pastimers Club activities are getting more bizarre from armpit smelling punishment game, "helping" their teacher, to a fight with the Shougi club. The humor in this anime is so over the top and I love it
Ahh, the last episode 😭😭. There were so many funny and hilarious scenes all the way to the end, and it was hard to stop laughing at every reaction they made 🤣🤣. The baby was the final touch in this scene for me. There were so many unexpected things for a baby to do 🤣.
Another great and hilarious episode 🤣. This one focuses more on the student council than the rest. Also, the way the Pastimers Club is doing something unexpected for their cultural festival makes them stand out from the usual clubs 🤣🤣.
Great episode as always. This one focuses more on Kasumi than on the rest of the girls. It’s great and unexpected to see everything that happened here, including the scene where Kasumi was in the hallway 🤣🤣.
Another good laugh in this episode. The comedy keeps coming the same way it has from the first episode up to now. A solid comedy it is. This episode focuses more on Olivia than the other girls. Also, Olivia’s brother has been unlocked in this episode, revealing himself 🤣🤣.
Ahhh, I can’t breathe 🤣🤣. The way they react to things is just too hilarious. One of the best parts of this episode is the punishment game 🤣. The game is way too serious for them, and it’s way too funny for anyone watching 🤣🤣.
The comedy never ends, and it always comes unexpectedly. Their teamwork during the heist is hilarious. Also, the way Hanako trained her pet in this episode is unexpectedly different from what I imagined 🤣🤣.
Great combination of comedy and horror, with a wholesome moment as well. The wholesome scene with Oka and her friend takes an unexpected twist 🤣. Even though there’s a lot of overreacting, it doesn’t feel cringe at all. Instead, it makes the whole thing even more hilarious 🤣.
From the first episode to the last, I laughed so much. I was shocked at the baby’s actions, it didn’t even seem like a normal child anymore LOL !!. It was so enjoyable and definitely not a waste to watch, but it felt a bit lacking. I was left wanting more episode to watch.
Their club is definitely the weirdest of all the clubs. Everything they do is so exaggerated, it feels like something is always going wrong, which in the end makes me laugh so much. The chemistry between the three of them is great, changing from scene to scene, but each one’s unique character traits stay consistent.
Every scene is completely unexpected! 😂 The comedy is so silly, but you’ll be laughing nonstop, it never gets boring or disappointing. That’s why I can’t wait for every new episode to come out. Every time i watch this anime it gives me good vibes.
The VA's in this anime are really amazing if it weren’t for them, the comedic lines of each character wouldn’t feel so lively. Artists are also talented, with the meme-style drawings used in some scenes, when everything comes together, it’s absolutely hilarious to watch.
It’s really hilarious when the three of them are together, especially with their meme-worthy expressions in every scene. It also really shows their strong bond and how much they enjoy each other’s company.
The super funny vibe of the three is back again, though it’s mixed with a weird and mysterious feel because of a specific character. But regardless, every scene is still enjoyable, everything is unexpected, so you won’t get tired of watching each episode.
This episode doesn’t seem as funny as usual, like the meme factor was toned down a bit. But the funny themes and each character’s reactions are still there, keeping it entertaining and still making you want to see what happens next.
I never get tired of the craziness when the three of them are together. I can’t help but laugh nonstop, I probably look completely insane. It’s so entertaining, and honestly, not a single episode feels like a waste, you really want to watch every single episode.
There hasn’t been a single boring episode so far. Even now, I’m still going crazy laughing at their antics and over-the-top expressions in every scene. Each episode feels fresh and never gets tiring because the plot doesn’t repeat.
I honestly laugh so much in every episode I watch. Their crazy antics are hilarious, especially the way each expression is drawn so funny. If you’re looking for something to pass the time but still be entertained, this is the anime you're looking for.
