Ascendance of a Bookworm
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Urano Motosu loves books and has an endless desire to read literature, no matter the subject. She almost fulfills her dream job of becoming a librarian before her life is ended in an accident. As she draws her last breath, she wishes to be able to read more books in her next life. As if fate was listening to her prayer, she wakes up reincarnated as Myne—a frail five-year-old girl living in a medieval era. What immediately comes to her mind is her passion. She tries to find something to read, only to become frustrated by the lack of books at her disposal. Without the printing press, books have to be written and copied by hand, making them very expensive; as such, only a few nobles can afford them—but this won't stop Myne. She will prove that her will to read is unbreakable, and if there are no books around, she will make them herself!

The audacity of the High Bishop. I love when Myne said something like, “You are ready to kill someone, so you must also be ready to be killed”. She was ready for killing lol
Cried when Lutz cried, but it is important for Myne’s survival. I love Lutz-Myne’s relationship.
Introduction of the church and Myne second meeting of the book in this world. Also some introduction about their gods. There is a comment mentioning that the church intro is kinda abrupt but I think from the early episodes, when Myne first time went out with Mom and she asked if that one big building is a castle, Mom answered that it was a church. There is also Tuuli baptism. I think they were just not religious people. That’s why church is not something they mention in daily lives.
I’m happy that Myne did not withold the information about the devouring from her family because sometimes people tend to keep their terminal illness secret from family and friends until it is too late.
New character that finally tell Myne something about her illness. I like the part where the same scene replayed by Lutz and Frieda. Definitely can see how it could play out when they are adults
Lutz TT really loving him
The suspicion starts to budding in. Myne was just too excited because she is one step closer to make a book that she forgot her surrounding smh
More new characters! Paper finally started being made. Lets goooo!!!!
It must be frustrating when things don’t go your way after several times trying. Lucky for Myne to have Lutz by her side.
Weird thing is happening to Myne(?) It seems far until a book can be made
Loving their family relationship
The portrayal of Benno in this episode sets him up as someone who cares for Myne. While it may be mainly for profits at the moment, there are moments where he's looking beyond the money Myne brings. This episode also finally acknowledges the existence of magic as well as the foundations of the dynamics between nobles and commoners. We also finally see some of the consequences of Myne not thinking about her actions which resulted in the growing suspicion within Lutz.
I was shocked then the Head Priest actually admit his fault, a rarity in this show. But once again, the problem is solved over so quick, I do wonder if this will bleed into the next season where Myne will have to live with her decision and actions. This really is a unique isekai.
There's more question than answer in this episode, which is concerning since this is the episode right before the last one. I wonder how the series will tie it all up next episode. Beside that, once again I feel as if the problem Myne has was breezed through without any dilema.
It's really odd how every problem in this series doesn't have any escalation. The problem was presented and then resolved in one scene, which is very frustrating, for example Lutz with his mother, and Myne later in the episode. I just want to see the characters to struggle a bit.
I like this episode a lot. It highlights the best of this series has to offer, with the relationship between characters, and we also get some worldbuilding that actually was asked for. It was done nicely, I really do enjoy this series when it shifted its focus to the characters.
An okay episode where once again Myne breeze through her problem, except one, where the audience will be hanged until the next episode. I personally felt like this episode reiterate details we have known from the previous one, like how her sickness works, which is a bit redundant
And so we've finally reached the finale of Part One, and boy was it intense! That really got me on the edge of my seat, though it honestly felt a bit rushed. What an emotional rollercoaster of an episode. That was such a good first season. Looking forward to Part Two!
I know it's a bit late to say this, but Benno's starting to grow on me. 🤣 We learn a bit more about the church and the political side of things. There also seems to be more magic talk? I'm wondering how all of this is going to go.
