Episode Context

Coming off the introduction of the formidable Subaru Yukito in the Junior Orchestra, this episode escalates that rivalry into direct competition as the concertmaster battle takes shape. At episode 20 of 21, 'Surpass' functions as the season's emotional climax. Hajime's reckoning with his father's legacy reaches a resolution here that has been building across the entire arc. It sets the stage directly for the finale, 'Graduation,' positioning that closing episode as a moment of farewell rather than unresolved tension.
