📖 SYNOPSIS

After turning his back on his wealthy, controlling family, Kaoru Hanabishi now lives alone as a college student. One day he runs into a lost girl in a kimono at a train station — Aoi Sakuraba, who's been searching for him because they were betrothed as children. She's gentle, devoted, and completely determined to be with him regardless of what either family thinks. That's basically your first episode, and from there Ai Yori Aoshi becomes this warm, surprisingly grounded romance about two people trying to build something real while dealing with family pressure, societal expectations, and the fact that other girls keep showing up at the house. Yes, it's a harem setup — Kaoru ends up living in a large household with several women — but the core relationship between him and Aoi is established from the start and stays the emotional center. The show never really pretends you don't know who he's ending up with, which honestly makes it more relaxing to watch than most harem series. If you liked Love Hina or Oh My Goddess, this hits a similar frequency: comedic daily life mixed with genuine emotional beats about commitment and what it means to choose someone. J.C.Staff keeps the animation clean and the pacing steady across 24 episodes. The drama around Kaoru's estranged family gives the story some real weight, and Aoi's traditional demeanor is a refreshing contrast to the usual loud harem dynamics. It's a cozy watch with more heart than you'd expect going in.
