READTHROUGH
Riki's Torment and Mimea's Memory
The episode opens with Riki chained and gasping, enduring unseen torment under the cold gaze of Iason Mink. His defiance flares, but his body struggles against the constraints. A flashback then pulls the viewer into a warm memory of Riki with Mimea, a woman he loves, promising to protect her from society's cruel 'pairing' system. This tender moment is violently shattered as guards drag Mimea away, leaving Riki in a mask of impotent rage. The return to his present agony underscores the deep wounds of his past.
The Blondies' Cruelty
In their clinical opulence, other Blondies mock Iason Mink for keeping a 'slum mutt' like Riki, showcasing their contempt for lower classes. Iason returns to Riki, using a holographic display to coldly inform him of Mimea's forced 'pairing.' A weeping, distraught holographic image of Mimea appears, begging Riki to save her, revealing she is carrying another man's child before the transmission cuts. Riki is left devastated, his defiant spirit temporarily broken by this cruel manipulation. Iason watches, taking perverse satisfaction in his pet's despair.
Iason's Claim
Iason Mink leans in, whispering a chilling reminder of Riki's ownership, asserting that Riki's resistance has only brought ruin. His gloved hand moves over Riki's body, a possessive gesture Riki cannot escape due to his chains. Iason's gaze seeks absolute submission in Riki's face. The two ascend in a luxurious pod, Riki exhausted and defeated, Iason statuesque in his control.
A Gilded Cage
Panoramic shots reveal Eos, a city of cold, sweeping beauty, before jumping two years into the future. Riki now stands in lavish quarters, dressed in a sleek pet outfit, his expression distant and hollow. Daryl, a polite but emotionless programmed servant, enters, asking if Riki plans to go out. Riki barely acknowledges him, his former aggressive energy replaced by a weary resignation as they move through the vast, impersonal halls.
The Whispers and The Defiance
A voiceover explains the unusual scandal of Iason Mink keeping Riki for so long, while Daryl meticulously monitors Riki's every move. Riki walks through a crowded hall, ignored by the high society but whispered about as the 'slum mutt.' Daryl warns him about tightened security, but Riki's old defiance flashes, and he shoves past the servant towards the guarded exit. He presents his neck ring for scanning at the impressive 'Butterfly Doors.'
The Attempted Flight
As Riki waits for the doors, city views contrast the elite levels with the industrial depths, highlighting the rigid social structure. Alone in a bright corridor, Riki touches his neck ring with profound disgust, showing his desire for freedom still burns. He pulls a hidden device and expertly bypasses a security panel. A blast door groans open to a dark, unfinished tunnel, and Riki slips into the darkness, running with a desperate hope towards his old slum sector.
The Brutal Recapture
Emergency lights pulse, and security droids descend, cornering Riki in the tunnels. He fights fiercely but is quickly subdued by non-lethal pulse weapons. A guard brutally strikes Riki, sending him sprawling and bleeding. He is shackled, letting out a final snarl of defiance before being dragged back to the upper levels.
The Council's Judgment
In a formal council chamber, Iason Mink faces his peers regarding Riki's breach. Raoul Am mocks Iason's 'malfunctioning toy,' suggesting Riki be discarded. The council, treating the event as a technical glitch, demands an explanation for the sophisticated breach. They suspect Daryl of developing an 'ego' and order his psychological purge, a fate Iason coldly accepts. Despite suggestions for harsher punishments for Riki, Iason asserts his ownership, rising to handle the discipline himself.
Daryl's Sacrifice
Daryl is strapped into an interrogation chair, metallic probes attached to his head. His internal thoughts are accessed, revealing he intentionally helped Riki with a hacking device and escape routes. His internal monologue hints at a genuine, selfless motivation beyond his programming. The 'purge' activates, violently erasing his memories and personality in a blinding flash. Daryl is left a blank, mindless servant, observed silently by Iason Mink, who then walks away without a word.
The Final Crushing Blow
Iason Mink walks through Eos, musing on the fragility of human pride and the 'defect' of ego, before reaching Riki's dark room. Riki lies bruised and broken on the bed, his spirit seemingly crushed. Iason activates his own ring, sending agonizing high-frequency pulses through Riki's neck collar, making him thrash and scream. The pain subsides, and Iason coldly informs Riki that Daryl is purged and Riki is truly alone. Iason forces Riki's head back, threatening further suffering for anyone who helps him, before increasing the pain again, whispering that Riki will learn to love his leash. He leaves, telling Riki to be 'compliant,' and Riki lies motionless, eyes staring blankly, utterly re-imprisoned as the credits roll over a somber and beautiful depiction of the city.
