A Misanthrope Teaches a Class for Demi-Humans
Oshimeter
Synopsis
A burned-out teacher who hates people, and not in the edgy, cool way, but in the "past trauma made him shut everyone out" way, Rei Hitoma takes a remote teaching gig at a mountain school expecting peace and quiet, maybe some personal healing. What he gets instead is a classroom full of demi-human girls, a mermaid, a werewolf, a rabbit, and a bird, all trying to learn how to become proper humans. And he's supposed to be the one teaching them what humanity looks like. The irony isn't lost on anyone. This 13-episode TV series from asread. is based on a light novel, and it leans into that premise with a genuinely emotional tone. It's not a harem comedy despite the setup, the drama and supernatural elements stay grounded in questions about identity, acceptance, and what it actually means to be human. Each of the students, like the mermaid Kyoka Minazuki or the werewolf Isaki Ogami, brings her own struggles that mirror Rei's in unexpected ways. The dynamic between a teacher who's given up on people and students who desperately want to become people is where the show finds its heart. If you liked Interviews with Monster Girls but wanted something with more emotional weight, or you enjoyed the found-family warmth of Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid in a school setting, this fits that space well. It's quiet, character-driven, and genuinely thoughtful about what it means to connect with others when you've forgotten how.

Haruna's emotional outburst and confession of her regrets really hit me hard. It was raw and you could really feel her pain.
I just love how the teacher handled Haruna's emotional moment, and his final monologue about humans. He really understands them, even the parts he hates. It's like he accepts people for who they are, flaws and all, and that's why he's such a great teacher, you know? It really shows his growth too, compared to how he was at the start of the series. He's still a misanthrope, but in a much more understanding way.
The teacher gave Sae's business card back to Usami, it felt like a passing of the torch and a hopeful future for both of them.
I couldn't believe Usami's true reason for wanting to become human it was so pure and emotional.
The moment Usami uses the magic stone to save Nezu from falling, just to protect her friend, was a genuine tearjerker.
So glad Usami graduated! It was such a hard journey for her and to see her finally achieve her goal felt really good.
I love Karin's dedication to getting followers but only caring about the sensei's approval. It's too relatable in a funny way.
Tobari whipping out those weird instruments so fast and making a whole song was seriously impressive, the creativity in this episode is something else.
Ogonami's 100 cute true things for sensei were so sweet it was the absolute best and she really grew a lot.
Nezu's confession about eating all the ingredients and having withdrawal symptoms made me laugh out loud I can't even lie.
Man Usami finally graduated like she deserves what a journey for her this episode was awesome
I still can't believe Haruna got off so easy with all the lies she told about Hitoma that whole storyline wrapped up way too fast
The way Usami went from zero to hero to save Maibara was just fantastic I totally loved her transformation and her determination
Isaki actually graduating with her feelings all sorted out was such a moment
That surprise graduation for Isaki was so sweet I really thought her friends were mad at her this whole time
I really loved seeing Usami open up today, she's actually showing how much she cares even if she's grumpy.
Man, the pure joy on Isaki's face when she realized it was a surprise graduation made my day. So sweet to see her happy.
Isaki's double graduation was honestly so touching, I really didn't expect to get so emotional watching her grow up. It was a sweet moment.
Seeing Isaki get so emotional realizing her friends planned a surprise party for her human form was so sweet and definitely hit me right in the feels.
Neneko choosing her own path? That's peak pilot customization, calibrating her destiny-mecha for maximum wholesome output 🤖✨
