EPISODE REVIEWS

We finally see some progress. The first 9 minutes are slow-paced since they haven’t reached the exam site yet. After that, once they arrive, we’re introduced to various characters who seem important and pretty intimidating. Looking forward to learning each of their abilities!

Episode Context

The Hunter Exam begins in earnest. Episode 3 drops Gon, Kurapika, and Leorio into the exam site at Zaban City, and the atmosphere shifts decisively from adventure-road-trip to tense, competitive standoff. The room is packed with dangerous strangers, and the episode takes its time letting you feel the weight of that. Expect deliberate pacing focused on sizing up the competition. Hisoka radiates menace from the moment he appears on screen, veteran examinee Tonpa introduces the politics of survival, and a white-haired kid named Killua makes a memorable entrance. Madhouse leans into suspense over spectacle here, building dread through character dynamics rather than action. Themes of trust and deception take center stage as the show makes clear: not everyone in this room wants to be your friend, and the real danger isn't the exam, it's the other applicants.
