Yuukyuu no Gusha Asley no, Kenja no Susume
Oshimeter
Synopsis
After being laughed out of Magic Academy, Asley accidentally discovered an elixir that made him immortal, and out of sheer spite, he spent 5000 years perfecting magic on his own. The problem? He got so absorbed in his research that he kind of forgot to actually do anything with it. Now he's an absurdly overpowered ancient mage wandering into a world that's moved on without him, accompanied by Pochi, his talking dog familiar who has zero patience for his nonsense. This TV series, based on a light novel, follows Asley as he tries to figure out modern magical society while carrying around knowledge that predates basically everything. The comedy comes from the gap between how powerful he actually is and how clueless he remains about, well, everything else. His back-and-forth with Pochi is genuinely fun — she's not just a sidekick, she's the one keeping him grounded when his 5000-year-old brain goes sideways. The fantasy world has its own magic system and academy politics, so there's enough structure to keep things interesting beyond the jokes. If you liked the isekai-adjacent fish-out-of-water feel from The Rising of the Shield Hero, or the overpowered protagonist vibes of A Wild Last Boss Appeared, this hits a similar spot. It also shares some DNA with Lv999 no Murabito in how it plays with expectations around strength and social standing. It's a chill watch — adventure with heart and a good dog.
