He's warned not to stay there alone — which is never a good sign — but ends up sheltered by a local woman named Shizuka anyway. What starts as field research into rural customs and old legends quickly becomes something more unsettling as Kotarou realizes the village's rituals might not be purely ceremonial. The atmosphere here leans heavily into Japanese rural horror: isolated location, cryptic locals, customs that feel just slightly off. If you've watched Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and liked the slow dread of a tight-knit community hiding something, or if Another's creeping suspense is your thing, this scratches a similar itch in a much shorter runtime.
